One of these days, you will wake up and I will be gone

One of these days, you will wake up and find my eyes listless

Dead to commitment and open to other fish in the sea gardening your resentment

I will divide your time into worry, fear, and stress

One of these days, you will wake up and I will be gone

Even though my body will be present, you alone will feel the essence of my emptiness, I will be gone

No longer riddling your mind with dreams of eternity as you lay next to me

I will be existing quite frequently in your past

And you will not mourn my departure – rather you will celebrate in your freedom

For God’s mention of me will only remind you of how far you’ve come

How strong your wings have gotten and how much of you have grown

You will be boundless in my absence

The wretched chains will shatter in your pursuit of happiness, fall away in your freeing, and disappear in your gladness…

One of these days, I will wake up, and she will be gone

No longer there to comfort my loneliness

Feed my hunger of flesh, for she will force me to be vegan

She will leave no letters for my comfort and no fragrance for my meditation

She will gladly leave the place that her heart knows to be vacant

One of these days, I will wake up and she will be gone

Her dreams will haunt my reality that she is nowhere to be found

I will be bound by her absence

The foundation will be made from my dreaming, and be made as consistent as her breathing, and most assured as her bereaving

The thought of her leaving leaves me grasping at the ghost of her

Rattling the walls of my memory she will be gone and I will be left to count the days till her return

And when she doesn’t return, I will bury my soul in regret and only hope to find half the woman she is

Because one of these days, I will wake up…and she will be gone.
